How to make your New Year’s Resolutions stick!

Your will power is like a muscle. The more you use, it the stronger it will yet. So, if you’ve got this far into the year and your will power is still as strong as iron, the chances are your healthy new ways will stick around. However, if you are struggling to stay on the straight and narrow, here’s some tips to make sure your good intentions for the New Year remain.

1 – Give yourself small, achievable goals.

Setting yourself small goals spread thought out the year will keep giving you renewed focus and motivation. For example, rather than saying ‘I’m going to drop 5 dress sizes by the end of the year’, set yourself the goal of losing 1lb per week. This is an achievable and measurable goal that you can look forward to achieving each and every week.

2 – Rope in a friend.

We know eating a healthy diet and staying active can be tough at times. So join up with a friend who has the same resolutions as you, then you can keep each other going.

3 – Keep yourself accountable.

The best way to achieve your goals is to make yourself accountable. Write down your goals, tell them to your friends and family. This will help to keep you going when motivation levels start to dip.

4 – Give yourself a reward!

It’s not all work and no play. When you achieve one of your goals, be sure to treat yourself. Plan a spa day, enjoy a meal out with friends or just give yourself the night off. We all deserve a little down time.

5 – Remember why you started.

And finally, when things get tough and you just want to give up, remember why you began the year giving yourself these resolutions. Don’t allow another year to pass without seeing them through, your future self will thank you for sticking with it!
